The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our tests. The latest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, as well as washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house based on how dirty these areas are.
For larger houses it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
