A Brief History Of The Evolution Of Robot Hoover
The Best Robot Hoover
The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its price is affordable and its high-end functions (such as dirt detector) are positives.
Examine your robot's brush frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them when necessary. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin in the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or at school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. My Source and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did a great job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination has a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with how dirty they tend to be.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Also a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. And you can create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
