1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top pick), they use intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also come with a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it isn't as effective as some of its competitors in terms of deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. During testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had various flooring types, such as certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house by using the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
